Newly floated Raijor Dal to field jailed peasant leader Akhil Gogoi

Newly floated Raijor Dal will field jailed peasant leader Akhil Gogoi from Sibsagar constituency.

Raijor Dal, which is fighting election in alliance with All Assam Students Union (AASU) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), promoted new regional political party Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) will field 17 candidates.

The party will contest 12 seats in first phase (March 27) and in the second phase (April 1), it has put up candidates in six constituencies.


Gogoi was arrested for sedition charges in 2019 during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protest in Assam.

AJP released a list of 18 candidates for Assam assembly polls. AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi will make electoral debut from Duliajan assembly seat while former minister Jagadish Bhuyan will contest from Sadiya.
