He also urged people to remain united and vigilant against what he described as “divisive forces”, while asserting that the government would not permit any “anti-national activity” in the state.
West Bengal to follow Uttarakhand, Gujarat on Uniform Civil Code
On the Uniform Civil Code, Adhikari said West Bengal would follow the example of Uttarakhand and Gujarat and implement a UCC in the state.The West Bengal government has constituted a high-level committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai to examine a draft UCC for the state.
According to a government notification, the proposed West Bengal UCC Bill seeks to standardise civil laws across communities on issues including marriage, divorce, inheritance and adoption.
The UCC was among the BJP’s key promises in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.
Adhikari says government will protect temples, traditions
Adhikari said the government would work in accordance with the Constitution but would not allow attacks on Indian culture, Sanatani traditions, temples, monasteries or the state’s heritage.“This government will not allow any anti-national activity here,” he said, while referring to the traditions and teachings associated with spiritual figures such as Swami Vivekananda and Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
Rs 1,000 crore religious tourism circuit planned
Speaking about the proposed religious tourism circuit, Adhikari said the project would be completed within two years, with Rs 1,000 crore earmarked for it.He sought suggestions and cooperation from the public for the project.
Adhikari attacks previous TMC government
Taking aim at the previous TMC dispensation, Adhikari said there were several reasons for its downfall, but alleged that repeated instances of “hurt” to Hindu sentiments, organisations, deities and traditions were among the foremost.“People tolerated those for a long time and then bid the party farewell,” he said.
Hanuman Chalisa, mass Gita recital among upcoming events
Recalling his involvement as a volunteer in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement during his student days, Adhikari said that as Leader of the Opposition from 2021 to 2026, he had protested against alleged atrocities on Hindus in West Bengal.He also announced a series of upcoming events, including a Hanuman Chalisa recital by 20,000 people at Netaji Indoor Stadium in November and a mass Gita recital involving 10 lakh people on December 29.
Adhikari further said preparations had begun for next year’s Gangasagar Mela, with plans to provide facilities of international standards.
