New FSI policy to help Maharashtra industry
MUMBAI: In continuation of its 'ease of business' policy, the Maharashtra government has decided to increase floor space index ( FSI) for industry and other activities and has also cut down the number of permissions required to proceed with construction projects. These decisions were announced by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday night.

A senior officer in the chief minister's office said FSI for factory expansion has been increased from 0.1 to 1 and powers to sanction projects have been delegated to collectors in order to speed up projects.

Apart from this, for police housing the FSI has been increased from 1 to 4 to make available adequate houses on existing police plots. In addition, municipal plots for safai kamgars will get an FSI of 4 if plot size is bigger that 4,000 sq mt.

Currently, for an industry located in agricultural zone or NDZ, eligible FSI is 0.1. For expansion of factories, zone change and for getting additional FSI from 0.1 to 1, an application moves from district to all the way to secretary, urban development, and then to the CM. These powers are now being delegated to collectors.
