New era is beginning in India-China ties: Tarun Vijay

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A new era is beginning in India-China relations due to the synergy between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, BJP leader Tarun Vijay today said.

"A new brave era is beginning in India-China relations due to the wonderful synergy between Prime Minister Modi and President Xi Jinping," Vijay, President of the Parliamentary Group on India-China Affairs, said here.

Holding that the upcoming visit of Modi to China in May would give further momentum to the process, he said the recent visit of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to China had already created a conducive atmosphere for this process.

"The successful visit of Sushma Swaraj has created a new idiom of confidence and cordiality in the relations between two countries," he said.

Strengthening people-to-people contact is vital for both the countries to know each other and remove misconceptions, Vijay said, adding, that he had coined the slogan "know China, go China and Hello China" with this in mind.

He said that though China and India were the closest neighbours but proper understanding of each other at the common-people level is still lacking.

By encouraging visit of people from both sides, especially youth, the misconceptions could be removed and mutual trust strengthened and new dynamics created in the ties, he said.
