New commandant for Madras Regimental Centre
UDHAGAMANDALAM: Brigadier S Suresh Kumar, Commandant of The Madras Regimental Centre, was today given a grand send-off by troops following his superannuation.

Brigadier Satish Kumar Sangwan, a second generation officer, will take over as Commandant, an official release said.

Suresh Kumar assumed charge in October 2012 and functioned as Station Commander, Wellington Military Station and President, Wellington Cantonment board.

MRC, under his command, grew from strength to strength and reinforced its reputation for professional excellence and had won the Army day Parade Best Marching Contingent Trophy and was adjudged second best in Republic Day parade, the release said.

The military band has been adjudged winner for two consecutive years and the Centre under his guidance has set a very high benchmark for recruit training, it said.

Emotions ran high on the occasion since Suresh Kumar's father, Subedar Major and honorary Captain Sanal Kumaran Pillai, had also served in the same regiment and was one of the first recipients of Vir Chakra in 1947-48 when he was a young sepoy, the release said.
