Mumbai: The rift between the Deputy Chief Minister .R.R.Patil and the Mumbai Pradesh Congress Committee President Gurudas Kamat has been widely reported in the media. Each one has been challenging the other of misconduct and impropriety.
In the final round Patil is reported to have said that if Kamat persists in accusing him he will be forced to bring in public the causes and persons behind the collapse of the South Indian Cooperative Bank. After some shadow boxing both seem to have cooled down and blown the peace pipe.
This raises an interesting and important question. If .Patil is privy to certain information regarding the collapse of the bank he is morally and legally duty bound to make all information with him public and pass it on to the concerned investigating authorities.
His open admission of having information regarding collapse of the bank and not informing the authorities will amount to criminal negligence and misdeed.
All the unsavory activities of the bank should be investigated thoroughly and the guilty should be brought before justice and punished. Only then the hapless investors will get some relief. Withholding information is legally and morally wrong. Thousands of depositors in the bank, mostly senior citizens have lost their life savings due to mismanagement by those who were in charge. Will Patil rise above playing party politics?
