New anti-Maoist policy will strive balanced approach in Maoist-affected areas
NEW DELHI: The new anti-Maoist policy being drawn up by the home ministry would strive for a balanced approach, drastically increasing the deployment of central armed police forces for operations in extremists’ areas, while creating over 100 development hubs at block-level in 23 worst-affected districts.

The development hubs will host big schools, hospitals and skill development centres to benefit locals till the road and communication network can reach remote areas of Maoist-affected areas. The home ministry has also made a pitch for control of the Integrated Action Plan scheme in Naxal areas, as reported first by ET on September 9, as the government disbands the Planning Commission. The monetary benefits to surrendering Maoists and compensation for the weapons deposited by them are also expected to be doubled in the new policy to encourage more surrenders and disarmament.
