'Nepal's territory will not be used for anti-India activity'

NEW DELHI: Nepal has assured India that it will not allow its territory to be used for any anti-India activity as Nepalese Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal concluded his visit during which a three pacts including a revised trade treaty were concluded.

The two sides also decided that Foreign Secretaries will discuss and review 1950 Friendship Treaty and other bilateral agreements to further strengthen the ties, according to a joint statement issued at the conclusion of the visit of Nepalese Prime Minister during which he held talks with counterpart Manmohan Singh.

"The two Prime Ministers reaffirmed their determination to consolidate and expand the areas of cooperation with a view to taking the relationship to a new height on the basis of mutual respect, understanding and mutual benefit" the statement said.

During their talks, Singh and Nepal discussed various aspects of bilateral relations including trade and security issues.

The Nepalese side assured that it would not allow its territory to be used for any activity against India and the Indian side also gave assurance to the other side.

It was also agreed that the Bilateral Consultative Group on Security Issues and the Home Secretaries of the two countries will meet within two months to enhance cooperation to effectively address all issues concerning security, including cross-border crime.
