On the day of his arrival, Singh will lay a wreath on the Bir Smarak at Tundikhel following which he will call on CoAS Rana.

KATHMANDU: Indian Army Chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag will be conferred the title of honorary rank of General of the Nepal Army during his maiden visit to this country next week, media reported today.

Nepalese President Ram Baran Yadav will confer the honorary rank of General of Nepal Army to Gen Singh at a special function, The Himalayan Times reported.

General Singh will begin his four-day visit on November 12 at the invitation of his Nepalese counterpart Gaurav Shumsher Rana.

On the day of his arrival, Singh will lay a wreath on the Bir Smarak at Tundikhel following which he will call on CoAS Rana, Nepal Army Directorate of Public Relations said in a statement.

On the next day, the Indian Army chief will meet President Yadav and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and visit the Kavre-based Birendra Peace Operations Training Centre, it said.

Singh will also visit Mustang-based army academy on November 14.

Nepal and India have an old tradition of conferring the title of the chief of the army staff by respective heads of the state.
