Nepal Parliament Speaker directs government to inform House on Nepal-India pact

KATHMANDU: Nepal Parliament Speaker today directed the government to inform the House about the agreements reached during the third meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission here.

Subas Chandra Nembang issued the directive after some opposition lawmakers demanded in the parliament that the government inform the House about the agreements reached during the JC meeting.

"The House is not informed of the agreements reached by the two countries; the lawmakers have also raised their voice in the parliament in the matter. So, I urge the government to inform the House on this as soon as possible," Nemwang said. The lawmakers said they have learnt through the media that Nepal and India agreed on 26 issues and added that they should be informed in this regard.

India and Nepal have agreed to review and update the Nepal-India Peace and Friendship Treaty 1950, emphasised the need for promoting greater collaboration and cooperation in combating cross border crimes, and stressed on the need for further enhancing bilateral trade and investment for mutual benefit among other things.
