Nepal observes International Yoga Day

The event was organised by the Indian embassy to mark the first International Yoga Day on June 21 in the presence of Vice President Parmananda Jha.

KATHMANDU: The International Day of Yoga was today celebrated in Nepal, despite heavy rains, with over 800 enthusiasts taking part in a yoga session here, also attended by noted Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala.

The event was organised by the Indian embassy to mark the first International Yoga Day on June 21 in the presence of Vice President Parmananda Jha.

Over 800 people took part in the Yoga session organised in the embassy premises.

Yoga Sandesh published by the Indian mission in Kathmandu was released by Jha and Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae.

The programme included 30 minutes of yoga postures, pranayams (breathing exercises) and five minutes of meditation.

This was followed by lectures from renowned Yoga gurus like Swami Arun Anand from Osho Tapoban, Shri Niraj Kohli, Director of Art of Living Nepal and Lava Dev Mishra, in-charge of Patanajlai Yogpeeth Nepal, who spoke on different aspects of Yoga and its practical aspect.

Popular humourists of Nepal Madan Krirshna Shrestha and Haribansha Acharya also took part in the programme.

Diplomats, journalists, students and various professionals were also present on the occasion.
