NEET Paper Leak: Modi should have spoken early, says Shivakumar

Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Thursday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure strict action against those responsible for the alleged NEET question paper leak, saying the Centre should not shield anyone involved.

The CM said the Prime Minister should have addressed the issue when the allegations first surfaced instead of responding now.

"The Prime Minister must not try to protect anyone in the paper leak case. Those responsible should face stern action," Shivakumar told reporters.


Referring to the protests by students over the alleged leak, the CM said the issue had affected the future of lakhs of aspirants, including children of BJP leaders.

"The BJP must accept its failure. What will happen if one person resigns? When question papers are leaked, shouldn't someone own responsibility?" he said, referring to demands by students for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Shivakumar also demanded that the issue be discussed in Parliament, alleging that question papers for more than 100 examinations had been leaked over the years.

"It is the responsibility of all of us to ensure transparent and high-quality education. Every examination must be conducted in a fair and transparent manner. India is a country of talented youth, and we must protect the credibility of our education system when the whole world is watching us," the CM said.
