Need to learn from Mumbai terror strikes: Amar

LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh on Saturday said that there was an urgent need to learn a lesson from the failures which led to terrorist strikes in Mumbai.

Replying to questions here on whether there had been intelligence failure in Mumbai which led to strikes, Singh said "why do you want to put it in my mouth..we all know what had happened..there is a need to learn a lesson from this failure to check it from recurring."

To a question on whether some heads at the top level should roll after the Mumbai strikes, Singh said he was as angry as any other Indian but this was not the time for raising such an issue.

"When the time comes we will take it up," he said adding that the anger and anguish of all Indians was justified. "As a politician I am equally helpless and ashamed," he said.

The Samajwadi Party leader who had accompanied Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to Mumbai, said he had raised all concerning issues and the viewpoint of his party during the two hour long meeting after returning from Mumbai.

The SP leader said that today it was not a question of the UPA or NDA government but of the country and all needed to work on it unitedly.

"No prime minister or home minister whether it belongs to the UPA or the NDA wants to create or support terrorism," he said.

On the measures required for dealing with a crisis like this, Singh said that tightening coastal security was required besides better coordination between the various agencies dealing with the menace.
