Need for NH protection force : Yechuri

HOWRAH: CPI(M) politburo member Sitaram Yechuri on Sunday said like the Railways, there was a need to create a dedicated force to provide security to the country's National Highway network to curb rising incidents of crime.
Yechuri, who is also the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, said, "In line with the Railway Protection Force, there should be a national highway protection force which we will recommend to the government."
Speaking at a National convention on 'Prevention of highway crime and HIV/AIDS' at Kona Expressway here, he said a concerted move should be taken by all concerned to curb this problem.
The convention was organised by All-India Motor Transport Congress.
Yechuri, who is also the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, said, "In line with the Railway Protection Force, there should be a national highway protection force which we will recommend to the government."
