The EC is closely monitoring over 7.6 lakh houses in Telangana with more than six voters each. This move is aimed at ensuring the accuracy of the electoral process. The houses, primarily located in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts, have a total ...

An intriguing instance is observed in the Karwan assembly constituency located in the Old City area. Here, a total of 17,139 houses are inhabited by a considerable 2.1 lakh voters, averaging about 12.5 voters per household. Similarly, Nampally exhibits an average of 13.4 voters in each house.
Poll experts have pointed out that in densely populated areas like slums, it's common for multiple individuals to reside within the same residence. Furthermore, certain constituencies in Hyderabad, such as Yakutpura and Karwan, have remarkably high population densities, resulting in the unusually elevated numbers of registered voters.
In the LB Nagar assembly constituency, there are 6,759 houses hosting 1.48 lakh voters, while Rajendranagar boasts 13,901 houses accommodating 1.47 lakh voters.
Commenting on the situation, Telangana's Chief Electoral Officer, Vikas Raj, told TOI, "An inquiry is underway. In numerous instances, voters have changed their residences. Over the upcoming weeks, we will conduct comprehensive door-to-door checks of these households to gain better insights. Our actions align with the standard operating procedures outlined by the ECI, with the aim of identifying and removing any fraudulent or duplicate voters."
Notably, officials have received a significant number of applications, nearly nine lakhs, from across the state. The majority of these applications pertain to voters seeking shifts between constituencies or the rectification of errors in the existing voter rolls.
In Hyderabad and Rangareddy district, a special initiative was undertaken in collaboration with residential welfare associations, shared Vikas Raj. "Approximately 40,000 new applications for address modifications or corrections have been received from these RWAs," he stated.
