NEW DELHI: To augment the sample handling ability, National Dope Testing Laboratory has signed a contract with the Sweden-based International Dope Test and Management (IDTM).

IDTM, which is an independent body in Stockholm and also state-of-the-art service provider of doping control management will help the NDTL to carry out 300 tests every year.

The Indian agency is currently aiming to enhance their sample testing capability from existing 2000 per year to 3000 in 2009 and to 5000 in 2010, a sports ministry release stated today.

The NDTL, which got accreditation from World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in September last year, is already engaged in testing of 242 samples for various international events.

Organisers of the 11th South Asian Games, scheduled for next year in Dhaka, have approached the NDTL to test 300 samples during the 12-day event.

Besides Bangladesh, the Indian laboratory is also receiving samples from a number of countries including Nepal, Kuwait, Qatar and Sri Lanka.
