The opposition parties on Saturday hit out at the Centre over the NDMA direction on Joshimath. They termed it an attempt to cover up and shoot the messenger at a time when more areas in and beyond Joshimath too are reportedly developing cracks. "Now, there are reports of cracks appearing in houses in Karnprayag and Tehri Garhwal. Instead of finding a solution to this problem and dealing with the problems caused to the people, the government agencies are banning ISRO reports and gagging the media. Narendra Modi Ji, do not shoot the messenger," said Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. The Shiv Sena (Uddhav camp ) too condemned the move. The CPI central secretariat, meanwhile, called for an all-party meeting to discuss the situation in Joshimath and Karnprayag.
