NDFB(S) militant arrested

TEZPUR: An NDFB(S) militant was today arrested by the police from Pavoi Reserve Forest area in Assam's Sonitpur district.

The militant has been identified as Ranjit Daimary alias D Roina and a hand grenade was seized from him.

Ranjit was allegedly involved in the killings of adivasis at Biswanath Chariali in December last year, Superintendent of Police, Biswanath Chariali, P Manobendra Devroy said.

The NDFB(S) had launched an attack on adivasis in Sonitpur and Kokrajhar districts following which there was retaliatory violence and police firing resulting in the killing of 81 persons.

Subsequently, the security forces launched operations against the outfit resulting in the arrest of nearly 70 militants so far.
