Gandhinagar| Mumbai | Bengaluru| Guwahati: The BJP and its allies have retained their seats in the bypolls held in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Nagaland and Tripura, counting for which was held on Monday, while Karnataka remained the only state to have elected two Congress MLAs.

BJP retained its Umreth seat in Anand district in central Gujarat with its candidate Harshad Parmar winning by a margin of 30,743 votes.

In Maharashtra, the Mahayuti alliance won two of the bypolls, with Sunetra Pawar of NCP winning in Baramati and BJP's Akshay Kardile grabbing the Rahuri seat. Sunetra Pawar won by a margin of 2.18 lakh votes.


In Karnataka, Congress candidates won from Davanagere South and Bagalkot seats. In Davanagere South, Samarth Shamnur (27) won by a margin of 5,700-plus votes. In Bagalkot, Umesh Meti won by about 21,800 votes. In Tripura, BJP retained the Dharmanagar seat with the party's North Tripura district vice-president Jahar Chakraborti defeating CPI-M nominee Amitabha Datta by a margin of 18,290 votes.
