NDA will reject FDI in retail notification if voted to power: Sharad Yadav

KOLKATA: National Democratic Alliance (NDA) convener Sharad Yadav on Saturday said that if NDA is voted to power in next general election in 2014, it will reject the current notification of allowing FDI in retail trade. Besides, it will also make a policy to upgrade and modernise the domestic trade of the country after holding due and proper consultations with all stakeholders of the retail trade of India.

Commenting upon the passing of FDI in retail in Parliament, Yadav said that though technically the issue has gained majority by the manipulative tactics of the government but the last verdict on this important issue will be given by people of the country.

He further added that FDI in retail is nothing but an attempt to put a 'lock' on the stomach of crore of Indians including farmers, small shopkeepers, hawkers, street vendors, small industries, labourers and other sectors of retail trade. The decision taken by the present government under the pres-sure of global retailers and the domestic corporates will cause major dam-age to Indian economy and retail trade.

Yadav said that if NDA is voted to power, it will ensure better and due price to the farmers for their produce, sufficient payment to labourers for their labour, remove bureaucratic hurdles for shopkeepers and have a foolproof policy will be made. "But before drafting the policy, the stake-holders will be consulted and their issues and suggestions will be given due consideration. The domestic resources will be used to the optimum level to strengthen the retail trade," Yadav pointed out.
