NDA regime idealess, steals UPA policies: Sonia Gandhi

NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday launched a multipronged attack on the NDA government.

On the one hand she accused it of having "nothing new to offer" and merely implementing the same programmes and policies of the UPA regime which BJP had opposed earlier. On the other, she charged that a series of communal incidents in UP, Maharashtra and other parts of the country have occurred after the Modi regime took charge and asserted that Congress would, "stand up to resist authoritarian and sectarian tendencies of the new government."

Addressing the Congress Parliamentary Party meet, she said, "We have been reduced in numbers... But we have not been reduced in spirit. It is our task to play the role of a vigilant Opposition, to stand up for the values and policies of Congress, and to resist the authoritarian and sectarian tendencies of the new government".

She further said, "the new government now supports the proposed goods and services tax, sugar subsidies, railway and diesel price hikes, FDI in insurance, the Aadhaar scheme and other key UPA budget measures, all of which they had bitterly and hypocritically denounced, obstructed and prevented progress on when they were where we are today".
