NCW issues notice to ING Vysya bank in Shailaja case
National Commission For Women has issued notice to ING Financial Services Limited here on the suicide of the bank employee Shailaja Praveen last week due to alleged "harassment" by her superiors.
"We have issued notice to the bank to produce the main accused Bharat N S, Region Head of the bank who is absconding, within 48 hours and hand him over to the police," Nirmala Venkatesh, Member Incharge (South) NCW said.
"I along with police officers probing the case visited the bank yesterday and conducted a detailed inquiry with the women staff and Kamal Pasha, the National Head of the bank," she said.
Venkatesh alleged that the bank staff knew Bharat's whereabouts as "a senior officer just cannot disappear without informing his organisation about his whereabouts."
In case, the bank does not comply with the notice, the NCW, she reiterated, will not hesitate to summon the CMD of the bank as the case involved harassment of a women employee leading to her suicide.
Inquiry revealed that when Shailaja committed suicide, there was a pen beside her body "indicating a suicide note which is missing," Venkatesh pointed out.
The NCW has asked police to probe the disappearance of the note.
