NEW DELHI: The National Capital Region (NCR) experienced light to moderate showers along with gusty winds on Tuesday, as the trend of unseasonal rain continues over the country.

Interior regions of Maharashtra are also expected to witness thunderstorms over the next couple of days. This includes Aurangabad, Parbhani, Jalna, Hingoli, Nanded, Osmanabad, Latur and Beed.

"The north-south wind discontinuity over south Peninsula along with upper level Jet Stream is likely to cause thunderstorms accompanied with lightning over interior Maharashtra and Gujarat," the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

Pune is also likely to receive rainfall by the end of the week, according to IMD.

There is also possibility of gusty wind and hailstorms over interior Maharashtra from Wednesday, it said. The IMD defines "gusty winds" as wind speeds on the ground reaching 30-40 kilometres per hour.

"Another WD (western disturbance) as a cyclonic circulation lies over East Iran and neighbouring countries. Under its influence, scattered/fairly widespread/widespread rainfall/snowfall with isolated thunderstorm with hail and gusty winds are likely over the Western Himalayan region (J&K, HP and Uttarakhand)," IMD added.
