NCM has received 8221 complaints from 2012-13 onwards

NEW DELHI: National Commission for Minorities ( NCM) received 8,221 complaints from organisations and individuals from 2012-13 onwards, Lok Sabha was informed today.

Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi shared the information while responding to questions on number of complaints the NCM received from minority outfits/associations over the past three years, nature of the grievances and action taken thereon.

"A total of 8,221 complaints/grievances were received by NCM from minority communities during the last three years and current year.

"This includes complaints from organisations and associations, as the Commission does not maintain a separate record of complaints," Naqvi replied.

During the year 2012-13, the Commission got 2127 complaints. Out of these, 1973 were disposed off and 154 were pending at the end of the year.

In 2013-14, the panel received 2638 grievances and settled 2483 of them.

During the previous fiscal, 1995 complaints were made with the NCM, which disposed off 1944 of it.

In the on-going year, as on December 8, the Commission has received 1461 complaints. It has settled 1348 of them, while 113 are pending.

The Minister said the type of complaints ranged from personal problems, property disputes to alleged harassment by government officials.

In cases where it is deemed serious, the matter is referred to state government by the NCM and reports called, he said.

The officials of the state government are also called to appear before the Commission in a quasi-judicial hearing in a few cases, Naqvi said.
