Party chief S Ramadoss said that the recommendation by the National Commission for Backward Classes ( NCBC) would help "promote social justice."
"Implementing social justice in all sectors alone would ensure complete social justice and PMK has been pressing for it for many years," he said.
Whenever demands for reservation in private sector had come up, respective governments at the Centre had said that the former will do it voluntarily, but that has only remained a 'mirage,'. Therefore the Centre should not wait anymore and implement the recommendation, he said in a statement.
Providing such a reservation will in no way affect merit, he said referring to the private sector's opposition to any such move.
Further, besides providing 27 per cent OBC reservation, adequate legal amendments should be made to give 15 per cent and 7.5 per cent quota for notified communities and Scheduled Tribes respectively, he said.
NCBC has recommended that a legislation be passed under which private entities, including businesses, hospitals, schools, trusts, etc. will have to reserve 27 per cent of jobs for OBCs.
