JAMMU: BJP today accused ruling National Conference of misleading people on the issue of Lokpal and said that by opposing the provision to have Lokayuktas in the state it has tried to institutionalise corruption.

"By opposing the implementation and extension of Lokpal legislation to Jammu and Kashmir during the debate in Parliament, the National Conference wants to cover up the ruling party's misappropriations over the last 20 years, BJP state spokesperson Jitendra Singh told reporters here.

Singh was reacting to the objection raised by NC member Mohd Shafi Uri in Rajya Sabha that by virtue of Article 370, the Lokpal law was not applicable to Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that under Article 253, the Centre had the power to make such a law on corruption applicable to states also in the light of the UN convention against corruption.
