NC demands involvement of Kashmiris in Indo-Pak dialogue

The opposition National Conference on Sunday called for involvement of Kashmiris in the Indo-Pak dialogue and sought a time frame for the resolution of the Kashmir issue.

SRINAGAR: The opposition National Conference on Sunday called for involvement of Kashmiris in the Indo-Pak dialogue and sought a time frame for the resolution of the Kashmir issue.

"The leaders of India and Pakistan should take the people of Kashmir along and initiate decisive steps to work out a permanent and everlasting solution to the issue within a time frame", former Chief Minister and NC patron Farooq Abdullah said at a public meeting in South Kashmir's Anantnag district.

Describing the people of Kashmir as an important party to the issue, he said complete peace cannot be achieved in the valley till the resolution of the issue in accordance with their wishes and aspirations.

Accusing the Centre of conspiring to dilute the special status enjoyed by the state since 1953, Abdullah said his party would never allow this to happen.

"No power will be allowed to weaken the status of Jammu and Kashmir", he said in an oblique reference to the BJP's demand for revoking Article 370 of the Constitution.

Criticising the coalition government, the NC leader said the coalition has given nothing to the people except grief and tears.

"The rising prices, corruption, growing unemployment and waywardness are the glaring examples of the government's failure in discharging its duties", he said.
