Naxal arrested in Chhattisgarh

A naxal was arrested during a joint search operation in Maoist-hit Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

RAIPUR: A naxal, carrying a cash reward of Rs 3,000 on his head, was today arrested during a joint search operation in Maoist-hit Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

The cadre was nabbed by the contingent of BSF ( Border Security Force) and a team of local police from the forests of his native place Tumrisur village under Lohattar police station limits this afternoon, Sub Division Officer of Police (SDOP) Tarkeshwar Patel told PTI.

The arrested was identified as Bhanu Ram (40), the SDOP said.

The patrol party was on a combing operation since Monday morning in Lohattar region, which is around 200 kms from the state capital.

On a tip off about the presence of a Maoist in Tumrisur, the search team nabbed Bhanu on suspicion.

Later, he admitted of being involved in the naxal movement besides several incidents of loot, attack and other serious crimes in the region, the SDOP added.
