Nawaz Sharif in London to see wife: Official
Pakistan's former prime minister Nawaz Sharif arrived at Heathrow Airport on Tuesday for what a Pakistani official in London described as a personal visit.
Sharif was in London to see his wife, who is receiving treatment here, the official said. He demanded anonymity because he did not want to be seen as speaking for the party leader.
Sharif returned to Pakistan in November after years of exile following a 1999 coup led by Pakistan's current ruler, Gen. Pervez Musharraf.
Sharif then joined Asif Ali Zardari, the widower of assassinated former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, to form a parliamentary coalition devoted to pruning Musharraf's powers or chasing him from office altogether.
The campaign to topple Musharraf, a former chief of the army, has been gathering strength amid mounting media speculation over his fate.
But the coalition itself is in trouble because of a dispute over how to restore judges sacked by Musharraf.
