Nawaz Sharif called up Prime Minister Modi to express grief over the temple fire tragedy in Kerala, a PMO official said.

NEW DELHI: Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif on late Sunday night telephoned his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi and conveyed condolences on Kollam fire tragedy in Kerala that killed over 100 people and injured 300.

The Modi-Sharif call took place shortly after 11 pm, immediately aftr PM's return from Kerala.

During the call, Modi also expressed his deep condolence to Sharif on loss of life and damage due to quake in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa.

This was first telephonic conversation between the Indo-Pak PMs since Pakistan last week gave contradictory statements on suspending dialogue with India.

Earlier in the day Pakistan Foreign Ministry also condoled the tragedy.

Meanwhile Russian President Vladimir Putin wrote to both the President and PM condoling the gruesome incident.
