Navy's 20 warships test tsunami readiness around the Lakshadweep archipelago
The HADR exercise saw the simulation of a major cyclone striking Lakshadweep and causing widespread destruction and loss of life.

The HADR (humanitarian assistance and disaster relief) exercise, which was held around the Karavati, Aggatti, Kalepeni and Androth islands on Monday, saw the simulation of a major cyclone striking Lakshadweep and causing widespread destruction and loss of life.
"It was designed to validate the Navy's capability to provide immediate succour and relief. It involved rushing supplies, setting up medical camps, provision of food and shelter, restoration of basic facilities and limited restoration work till the situation stabilised," said an official.
The Navy has been in the forefront of relief operations in the wake of the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004, evacuation operations from Lebanon in 2006 and Libya in 2011, assistance to Bangladesh during the Sidr cyclone in 2007 and Myanmar during cyclone Nargis in 2008.
