Navjot Singh Sidhu may soon end his innings as a BJP politician

CHANDIGARH: Cricketer-turned parliamentarian Navjot Singh Sidhu might soon end his innings as a Bharatiya Janata Party politician, his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu has said, complaining that her husband, once an explosive opening batsman for India's cricket team, has been ignored in the recent party reshuffle and felt "suffocated".

During BJP's recent organizational reshuffle, Sidhu was dropped as the party's national secretary. Navjot Kaur, herself an MLA from Amritsar-East, first announced her husband's disappointment on Facebook, but subsequently said she stood by her posts, even as Sidhu remained unreachable and leaders of the state BJP unit professed ignorance about the MP's plans.

Sidhu's significant commitments in cricket and TV shows have been a matter of controversy within the party, with workers complaining that he was not devoting enough time for his constituency and party work. "There is no point in continuing with a party that forces us to support corruption. He was instrumental in getting many development projects to Punjab, however they were entangled in one controversy or the other," Kaur said.
