NATO chief to hold talks with Georgian leaders

NATO's secretary-general and a panel of NATO ambassadors will hold two days of talks this month with Georgian leaders in Tbilisi.

BRUSSELS : NATO's secretary-general and a panel of NATO ambassadors will hold two days of talks this month with Georgian leaders in Tbilisi.

NATO spokesman James Appathurai said planning for the visit preceded last month's war between Russia and Georgia.
Moscow invaded its tiny neighbor and recognized the independence of Georgia's breakaway provinces of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Appathurai told reporters at the NATO headquarters that Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and ambassadors of the 26 NATO nations will meet with the Georgian president and prime minister Sept. 15 and 16.
