National Monetisation Pipeline policy a 'ploy to sell assets of the country': Mamata Banerjee

Lashing out at the Centre, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday claimed that the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) policy is a “ploy to sell assets of the country” even when it does not belong to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“This is not Narendra Modi’s assets, this is our country’s assets. Modi cannot sell the country’s assets…this is not the BJP party’s affair but it is a national affair. We condemn this shocking and unfortunate decision. These assets belong to the country. It is neither the property of Modi nor the BJP. They (central government) can't just sell a country's assets as per their whims and fancies,” Banerjee told reporters at the state secretariat Nabanna.

Calling the decision anti people, Mamata Banerjee said that the entire country will stand together and oppose this.


Referring the NMP as a “shocking and unfortunate decision”, the Trinamool Congress supremo alleged that the money which will be raised by selling those assets will be used during elections against opposition parties.

“The BJP party should be ashamed. They have no right to sell our nation's assets,” she said, coming down heavily on the BJP-ruled Central government.

Notably, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced Rs 6 lakh crore National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) on Monday and said that it will unlock value in infrastructure assets across sectors ranging from power to road and railways.
