National Minorities Commission blames Gehlot government for Bharatpur killings

NEW DELHI: The Ashok Gehlot government may be in deeper trouble with the National Minorities Commission holding it responsible for the recent Bharatpur clashes. The panel's report, which is yet to be published, said the police as well as local administration used excessive force at the protesting crowds during the clashes on September 14.

It also said the police should have taken immediate action when a religious leader was assaulted leading to the violence. The report said the police was partisan in dealing with the situation. Two communities had clashed over land in Gopalgarh area. The Gehlot government is already facing the music from the party's central leadership for giving a clean chit to the district administration in the Bharatpur violence. Two fact-finding teams of Congress have visited Bharatpur's troubled areas, including Gopalgarh, after the violence.
