National Commission for Women wants police pickets in pubs

GUWAHATI: National Commission for Women (NCW) wants the pubs of Assam to be brought under the special police pickets.

NCW chairperson Mamta Sharma accompanied by member Nirmala Samant met Assam chief minister, Tarun Gogoi in Guwahati on Wednesday.

NCW recommended several steps for the police to implement, which include patrolling of police with women personnel in the entire state and setting up special police pickets with women police at all the 128 pubs in the state till the shutter down time at 10.30pm for safety and security of women, who visit these pubs.

The NCW has also asked for installing CCTVs outside all pubs.
