The victory came amid recent protests over the corporation’s plan to cut hundreds of trees in the Tapovan area for a proposed Sadhugram ahead of the Kumbh Mela. Contesting the polls independently, the BJP emerged as the clear winner.

The Nashik Municipal Corporation polls were conducted after a prolonged gap caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, reservation disputes, and multiple court cases. Acting on directions from the Supreme Court, the State Election Commission finalised the election schedule, clearing the path for these much-awaited civic elections.

Polling covered 122 seats across 31 wards. In several booths, voting continued beyond the scheduled time due to strong voter turnout, reflecting high public interest after years without an elected civic body.

Soon after polling ended, major political parties struck a confident tone. The BJP, which had earlier claimed it could win up to 100 seats, said voter response pointed to a strong mandate and that it could secure at least 80 seats. The Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena also projected a solid performance, saying it would win a minimum of 60 seats on its own.

As counting progressed, the focus quickly shifted from claims to numbers.

Nashik Election Result: What happened in 2017

The Congress and the NCP won 6 seats each, while the MNS secured 5 seats. Independents won 3 seats, and the Republican Party of India (A) claimed 1 seat.

With counting still underway, Nashik is watching closely to see whether the early trends turn into a decisive mandate and which party finally takes control of the civic body after an unusually long pause in local governance.
