PUDUCHERRY: BJP today said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's coming visit to Sri Lanka would greatly help to enhance the cooperation and ties between India and the island nation in various sectors.

The party's Puducherry unit General Secretary R V Swaminathan said Modi is the first Indian PM to visit Sri Lanka in the last 28 years and the issues awaiting permanent solution would also find speedy settlement. The Sri Lankan Tamils issue would particularly find a permanent solution as a result his visit, he said in a release.

Alleging that the opposition Congress had been spreading a wrong message and trying to damage the purpose of Modi's visit, he termed as ridiculous, AICC General Secretary V Narayanasamy seeking cancellation of the visit.

He said that when Congress led UPA was in power at the Centre, nothing had been done to prevent Indian fishermen facing harassment at the hands of Sri Lankan naval personnel.
