The expressway, which will pass through Haryana from Palwal to Kundli and divert heavy-traffic passing through Delhi on its western border, was expected to be completed by the end of August.
However, at a review meeting chaired by PM on August 29, it was found that the project being executed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Haryana Government was still not complete. “Concern was expressed on the delay in execution of Western Peripheral Expressway in Haryana.
Cabinet Secretary should take a meeting with Government of Haryana and Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, review the project and ensure its early completion by end of September 2018,” the PM has directed at the meeting, as per minutes of the same that were reviewed by ET. A 53-km stretch of this e-way is open.
The 135-km long Eastern Peripheral Expressway passing through UP has already been thrown open to traffic by the Prime Minister on May 27 at a function in Baghpat in UP. Both these expressways are expected to take thousands of vehicles off the roads in Delhi, allowing them to bypass the capital while on their way to other states.
