Narendra Modi to file Varanasi nomination shortly; massive crowd gathers

NEW DELHI: In what is being termed as a 'massive show of strength', BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was on Thursday greeted by a huge crowd which had gathered to participate in his road show in Varanasi. Narendra Modi will file his nomination papers from the Varanasi constituency shortly.

A more than 2-km-long road show, brief public addresses from atop his car will comprise Modi's nomination filing exercise. Modi will pay tribute to Pandit Madan Mohan Malvya at his statue in the Lanka crossing. Then he will go to Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, one of the premier educational institutions, where he will garland the statue of Sardar Ballabh Bhai Patel and start his road show.

With the party expecting a public turnout of more than one lakh people when its prime ministerial candidate files his papers, campaign managers have worked to ensure that their enthusiasm matches that during Holi and Diwali.

The Gujarat Chief Minister has been highlighting contribution of Patel to attack Congress and had laid the foundation stone for a huge statue of Patel last year in Kevadia area of Gujarat.

On Wednesday, Arvind Kejriwal transported the typical drama and symbolism — that people of Delhi have come to associate with his AAP — to the temple town of Varanasi when he led a procession of committed volunteers, new-found loyalists and keen onlookers before filing nomination against BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi.
