Narendra Modi targets UPA government for wrong policies in defence
NEW DELHI: “India is spending huge amounts of foreign exchange to import arms and ammunition. This could have been avoided if proper policies were in place and the rulers had some vision. India could have produced most of its arms in the country, but the country has been badly governed and nobody had the vision to develop indigenous production of weapons,” BJP’s Prime Ministerial Candidate Narendra Modi alleged in Mumbai on Monday.

Speaking at a function to felicitate legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar on the 50th anniversary of the song “Ei Mere Watan Ke Logo”, Modi targeted the UPA government for wrong policies in the field of defence.

Lata sang the song and was cheered by about a lakh people, who sang the song with her. “When we recorded the song 50 years ago we did not think it will be such a big success. I have mixed emotions. I have sad as well as happy memories of this song,” Lata said.

The event was attended by many retired soldiers who were honoured for their sacrifice and relatives of defence personnel who laid down their lives for the country.
