Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) will have a presence in every state after he inaugurated a zonal office of the NCB in Raipur. Shah, who is on a three-day visit to Chhattisgarh, held a review on anti-Naxal operations on Saturday. He said the government will end the drug trade by establishing NCB offices in every state with the cooperation of the state governments.

Shah stated that if "we fight the battle against drugs in India with intensity, seriousness and a comprehensive strategy, we can win this battle". He added that illicit trafficking of narcotics in India severely impairs national security.

Shah informed that from 2004 to 2014, a total of 1,250 cases were registered by NCB whereas in the 10 years from 2014 to 2024, around 4,150 cases have been registered -- a rise of 230%.
