Narayangarh to become the first venue for CM Mamata Banerjee's district meeting

WEST BENGAL: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has chosen Narayangarh in West Midnapore as the venue for her first district meeting on June 13 after she won the recently concluded Assembly elections.

The Narayangarh assembly constituency had been a stronghold of former Bengal Opposition leader and CPIM state secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra, but he lost this time from here.

Banerjee held a number of meetings at Narayangarh and had urged the people to defeat Mishra. "If you can defeat Surjya Kanta Mishra at Narayangarh, I will give you everything you want," she had told a rally at Mishra's assembly constituency.

Trinamool’s main target was Mishra during this election since he was spearheading all political movements against Banerjee for the past five years. He even forged an electoral alliance with the Congress this time to fight her regime. The ruling party targeted Mishra as its main political enemy.

Mishra lost at Narayangarh by more than 13,000 votes to the Trinamool Congress.

"You may consider her Narayangarh meeting as our first victory celebration which will be addressed by Mamata Banerjee herself," said a senior Trinamool Congress leader. The entire state administration including the chief and home secretaries and all key ministers of Mamata's cabinet will be there at Narayangarh on Monday, Trinamool sources said.
