The Nandigram issue stalled proceedings in Parliament for the fifth consecutive day today, forcing adjournment of both Houses till noon.
NEW DELHI: The Nandigram issue stalled proceedings in Parliament for the fifth consecutive day today, forcing adjournment of both Houses till noon.
In Lok Sabha, JD (U) leader Prabhunath Singh demanded suspension of Question Hour to take up discussion on the Central Chemical hub project which was supposed to be set up at Nandigram in West Bengal.
As Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, who came to the House after a brief illness, disallowed the motion, BJP-led NDA members trooped into the well trying to raise the Nandigarm issue, forcing adjournment of the Lok Sabha for an hour.
In Rajya Sabha, BJP and lone Trinamool Congress member Dinesh Trivedi sought to raise the Nandigram issue as soon as the House met for the day.
Congress members were also on their feet vociferously demanding an apology from BJP member S S Ahluwalia for yesterday's incident in the House.
Yesterday, Ahluwalia had rushed towards treasury benches when Finance Minister P Chidambaram was replying to the debate on General Budget amidst the din.
