Nandigram reverberates in Parliament

Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha adjourned till noon on following furore over Nandigram killings.

NEW DELHI: The Opposition today stalled proceedings in both Houses of Parliament for the second consecutive day over the killing of farmers in Nandigram in West Bengal.

Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till noon within minutes of their assembling as Opposition and ruling party members clashed over the issue.

As soon as the Lok Sabha met, BJP members rushed to the well demanding dismissal of the West Bengal government.

Congress and Left members, on the other hand, sought to raise the issue of killing of policemen by Naxalites in BJP-ruled Chattisgarh.

As the din continued, Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal adjourned the House for an hour.

Similar scenes were witnessed in Rajya Sabha where Dinesh Trivedi (TC) sought to know status of the notice given by him on the killing of farmers in Nandigram.

BJP members were also on their feet raising slogans against the Buddhadeb Bhattacharya government in West Bengal.

Treasury benches tried to raise the Chhattisgarh issue as members belonging to the Left parties insisted on taking up the Question Hour.

Amidst the uproar, Rajya Sabha Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat adjourned the House till noon.
