Nandigram Congress candidate Milan Pradhan released on interim bail after 12 days in custody

Kolkata: Nandigram Congress candidate Milan Pradhan was released from judicial custody on Wednesday after the Calcutta High Court granted him interim bail on Tuesday. Pradhan, who was arrested on September 18 in relation to six criminal cases lodged in 2007, had spent 12 days in jail.

"I will start campaigning immediately," Pradhan said. "People of Nandigram will give a befitting reply. I was taken away by the police from a hotel to Mandarmani in filmy style," Pradhan said.

The Calcutta High Court had earlier granted him interim bail in all the six cases under Nandigram and Khejuri police stations. He was asked to furnish a ₹20,000 bail bond. The court observed that he was taken into custody only after filing his nomination papers and that the cases against him were related to the 2007 Nandigram agitation.
