Nandigram bypoll: Mamata camp candidate Sanchita Pradhan Dey withdraws nomination just one day ahead of the deadline

In a twist to the ongoing internal rift within the Trinamool Congress, Sanchita Pradhan Dey, the candidate fielded by the Mamata Banerjee faction for the upcoming Nandigram bypoll, withdrew her nomination on Friday, just one day ahead of the deadline.

The sudden decision came shortly after the Election Commission allocated a new name and symbol to the Mamata Banerjee-led faction for the October 6 bypolls, temporarily stripping the group of its claim to the party's traditional identity.

Mamata Banerjee announced that she will give support to Congress in Assam and Nandigram in greater interest of the nation.

Pradhan Dey, a local teacher chosen to represent the Mamata camp in the high-stakes constituency, met with West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at the state secretariat, Nabanna, on Friday afternoon alongside her husband, Satyajit.

Following the meeting, she officially pulled out of the contest, leaving the Mamata-led faction without a contestant in Nandigram.
