Nancy Powell's meet: Who is Jaswant to make comments, ask BJP leaders

AHMEDABAD: Senior leader Jaswant Singh’s take on the US ambassador’s meeting with BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has irked Gujarat BJP, with some leaders questioning Singh’s locus standi on the issue. “Who is he to make such comments,” asked a senior MP, while talking to ET.

“Was he informed by the Gujarat government or by the US government in this regard? On whose behalf is he talking,” he asked angrily. Yet another parliamentarian from Gujarat attributed Singh’s reaction to the differences he had with Modi and his possible denial of ticket from Darjeeling.

“There are chances that Singh may be denied ticket this time from Darjeeling,” said the MP, who requested anonymity adding that Singh’s difference with party leaders may have contributed to such a comment. Jaswant Singh’s book “Jinnah India-Partition-Independence” was banned in Gujarat.
