Namo Narain Meena to handle daily affairs at finance ministry

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will vet finance ministry's comments on all major proposals for consideration of the Cabinet.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will vet finance ministry's comments on all major proposals for consideration of the Cabinet. Singh's office has allocated most of the day-to -day affairs in the three key departments in the ministry to minister of state Namo Narain Meena.

"Comments of the finance ministry in all major proposals for consideration of the Cabinet or its committees will be submitted to Minister-in-charge (Prime Minister)," a finance ministry statement said.

Singh has taken charge of the finance portfolio following resignation of Pranab Mukherjee, who is the UPA nominee for Presidential elections.

Meena, who was in charge of departments of expenditure and financial services, will now answer all starred and unstarred question and take care of all Parliamentary works including verification and authentication of notifications, reports required to be laid in Parliament.

Within the department of economic affairs, Meena will look after matters related to National Savings Organisation and currency and coinage. In the case of department of financial services, Meena will deal with all matters except those meant for cabinet.
