Nalco bribe case: Court sends Srivastava and Bajaj to Tihar

Srivastava was allegedly given bribe by private firm Bhatia groups of industries to secure some lucrative contract from NALCO.

NEW DELHI: Public sector undertaking NALCO's former chief Abhay Kumar Srivastava and his accomplice Bhushan Lal Bajaj, arrested for their alleged involvement in a graft case, were sent to Tihar Jail today by a Delhi court.

Special CBI Judge O P Saini sent the duo to the jail after the CBI counsel told him that they may be remanded to judicial custody as their interrogation was over.

The duo were sent to Jail till March 23 as the defence counsel did not oppose CBI's plea.

CBI's prosecutor Akhilesh told the court that the probe in the case has not been completed and the accused may be sent to judicial custody for further investigation.

"At this stage, further judicial custody of fourteen days is required for both the accused as investigation is not yet complete," the probe agency told the court.

The two were arrested on February 25 after CBI recovered about 10 kg of gold bricks and jewellery valued at around Rs 2.13 crores as also Rs 30 lakh in cash from their possession.
